Churchless Christianity: A Move of God?

There’s another “move of God” that’s sweeping the nations. Have you noticed? Very few of those I’ve spoken with actually have. There are others who don’t necessarily view it as being a literal “movement” because it’s not quite as defined as they like. Not to mention those who don’t particularly approve of God “moving” in this direction. But as one British minister said to me several years ago, addressing all the controversies revolving around every new thing God has done since Genesis, “There’s never been a tidy move of God.”

Never.

Hey everyone:

I am still getting things taken care of in the life Gahterings as well as the Organic Gatherings. And I know it has ben a few weeks since I have posted to this blog, but honestly everyone that is a part of a Og has ben getting the texts and such, so it is only those few of you who check this online that have not been getting any updates…and I appologize!

The life Gatherings (the Gatherings that are a part of Florence UMC) are kicking into high gear, and have been taking a bit more time from my work, and the only area that is running dry is, yep…this blog, heh heh..

but rest assured! We wil be back very soon… and also please know that I will attempt to put up the past discussions up here too just for you! heh…

And for yall’s information we will be using the ancient but amazing Lectionary for our discussions at least through Easter! So, the good news is that you already know what the text will be…and each week I will attempt to put up the possible discussion starters and shimmer points like normal. So until then, please keep us and all those around you in prayer, and know you are always in my prayers as well! thank you and more to come shortly!

for a list of the Sunday Lectionary possible scriptures just head on over to the General Board of Discipleship lectionary site!

WD: the passion Prayer #3 John 17:20-26

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Here is the last discussion in this series…so enjoy the discussion… and please invite others to join us here is the text for this week:

My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. 24″Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. 25″Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

So here are a few questions to get yall started:

What does this say about the hear of Christ?

How has the understanding of the “world” changed in the last part of this passion prayer?

Why is unity so important?

What does “complete/perfect” unity mean?

How can this prayer (as a whole) change the way we live our lives…or how the “world” perceives Christians or Christ?

————————————-

OK yall have fun…and don’t forget that if you want to help park for the IHN (Interfaith Hospitality Network) fund raiser please get back to Sean and let him know today!

Welcome the newest member of Th3 Waters…

WD (Weekly Discussion) The Passion Prayer John 17:1-5

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

prayer

John 17:1-5

1After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

==============================================

So, what are your thoughts in this passage? Anything, jump out at you?

Some of the discussion we talked about included the following questions:

  • How would you have defined eternal life before you read this prayer?
  • How would you define eternal life now?
  • Jesus talks a lot about ‘glory’ in these verses…what do you think this means?
  • How does this prayer challenge the ways you’ve viewed Jesus?
  • Why did Jesus/John refer to himself/Jesus in the 3rd person?
  • What does this say about the character of Christ when you know he prayed this prayer right before he was arrested and crucified?

Let the discussion begin! And please invite others to join in our discussion…. next weeks discussion will be the next part of the prayer John 17:6-19
