I think by "Sexual Immorality" Jesus is talking old school, like in the Old Testament, when God's people would worship or follow another God that the prophets would tell them that they were "whores" not being true to their one and only love, Creator Covenant God. So, the sexual immorality has the same kind of meaning here, as well. And I am not sure if she was pushing a particular religion, but just telling Christians that it was OK to eat the food sacrificed to other gods that were the god's of the particular guides that they would be apart of.

Wow, and yeah reading the Message just now reminds me that he has heavily written his on commentary into the text (of course) But he is taking the words of Christ much more literal than I personally would.

Thanks for the discussion, great stuff!

Well, we couldn't really relate to the "sexual immorality" but the message also referred to her as touting "self indulgence" and other more selfishness and idoltry we could understand. We talked about some people in the news today who are pushing these type of religions...the "all about me" faiths. One famous woman in particular sounds a lot like the jezebel in "the Message". She is pushing a religion to the masses that encourages only self reliance rather than reliance on God for our needs.

Awesome ARM! Yeah sometimes that paraphrase is a good way to get another viewpoint, but remember that it is not a translation, just more like how one man read it and wrote the general thought behind what he thought. Great to hear you had a good discussion, but where is the discussion go? Give a few ponts here.

our group read this scripture in "the message" version. it was really a different description of jezebel. it helped us to relate to this situation more easily and thus pick up on the shimmer points.
